In October 2023, Tessian launched a product update to protect against QR code phishing — an emergent threat that had recently entered the email cybersecurity space. Our product engineers worked at rapid speed to release a first-to-market update in response to these advanced attacks. And our marketing team also had to keep up to show our unique value in a competitive market.
Before writing the blog post, I conducted SEO research using SEMrush and Google trends to see where we had the best keyword and ranking opportunity. "QR code phishing" had a niche audience so we also targeted "QR code scam" to widen our reach.
I wrote the following blog post in one day to keep up with our quick timeline, while making real-time edits based on feedback from the chief product officer, product manager, CISO, and chief strategy officer. This release and supporting content accelerated our sales deals. We also went from a 0 ranking for QR code phishing to a 22 ranking in just one week.
In addition to the blog post, I coordinated with the design team for an eye-catching social graphic and headline, and also edited together a short video featuring our product manager. Boosted by YouTube ad spend, the video has 82,000 views.
